The Local Organizing Committee of the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025 and the Paraguayan Cycling Federation (FPC) officially inaugurated the 2025 Pan American Cycling Championship, held from April 2 to 6 at the National Olympic Velodrome, located at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee.
The ceremony was attended by distinguished authorities of continental sports, including: Camilo Pérez López Moreira, President of the Paraguayan Olympic committee and IOC member; José Manuel Peláez , Presidente of the PanAmerican Cycling Confederation; Mateo Saldívar,President of the Paraguayan Cycling Federation; Víctor Pecci, General Director of ASU2025; and Larissa Schaerer, Deputy General Director of ASU2025.
More than 180 track cyclists from 19 countries competed in various categories with the aim of qualifying for the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025. The event was a true celebration of continental cycling, offering a thrilling spectacle filled with speed, strategy, and adrenaline.

The countries that were part of the championship were: Argentina, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, United States of America, Granada, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican republic, Surinam, Trinidad y Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela.

New Records at the 2025 Pan American Track Championship
The 2025 Pan American Track Championship left a mark in the world of cycling. On the second day of competition, new historic records were set. Highlighting the performance of Canadian rider Lauriane Genest, who broke the track record in the 200-meter time trial with a time of 10.488 seconds, surpassing the previous record set by Colombian Juliana Gaviria. Also notable were the achievements of Sindy Servín (Paraguay) and Madeley Galvez (Peru), who set new national records.
Exciting Afternoon Competition
The afternoon session of the championship was equally thrilling. The U.S. team set a track record in the team pursuit with a time of 3:53. Additionally, in the Keirin final, world champion Kevin Quintero from Colombia showcased his skill, winning the race with a spectacular performance.
National Record for Paraguay
On the third day of competition came a standout result for Paraguay, with cyclist Carlos Vidal Domínguez setting a new national record in individual pursuit. With a time of 4:37.203, Vidal beat the previous record from 2014 and reached a speed of 51.947 km/h, highlighting Paraguay’s growth in the discipline.
More National and PanAmerican Records
Emily Ehrlich from the U.S. set a new Pan American and U.S. track record with a time of 4:41.139, reaching a speed of 51.220 km/h marking a hit in women’s pursuit, which increased from a 3-kilometer race to a 4-kilometer race making this a novelty in this Pan American edition.
Another notable achievement was Stefany Lorena Cuadrado from Colombia setting a Pan American record in the one-kilometer track time trial, also a novel distance, with a time of 1:07.843, also achieving the new U.S record and the host track record.
Paraguay also celebrated a national record by Camila Servín Gauto, who recorded a time of 1:18.646, underlining the technical quality and high level of competition among participants.
Continuing with new Pan American records, in the final day of competitions, Colombian Cristian Ortega broke the one-kilometer time trial record with a time of 59.514 seconds, reaching 60.490 km/h, a world class hit mark.
The board was led by the United States, showcasing their dominance with 13 medals, of which 8 were gold.
Trinidad and Tobago ranked second in terms of gold medals, with a total of 4, including 3 men’s and 1 women’s gold.
Countries that also won gold include Colombia, Canada, and Mexico, each securing 3 gold medals.
The 2025 Pan American Cycling Championship not only served as a qualifier for the ASU2025 Games but also consolidated itself as a key platform for the development of cycling in the region. With broken records, emerging talents, and world-class organization, Asunción reaffirmed its commitment to the sport and set the bar high for the upcoming Junior Pan American Games ASU2025 in August.
