Undefeated and without leaving room for doubt, the Rioplatenses obtained the gold medal in women’s hockey. The Leoncitas defeated their US counterparts in the final, but before that, they managed to emerge victorious in all their presentations, receiving only one goal in the entire tournament, in the semifinal against Chile. In the gold medal match, the game was very tight despite the 3-0 final score in favor of the Argentine team. They had to work hard for their success and take advantage of their opportunities to reach the top of the podium. Thus, after a first half that ended with a minimal difference on the scoreboard, in the second half Argentina managed to widen the gap and close the game with some tranquility. The winning goals were scored by Lara Casas and Lourdes Pisthon, with two goals each.
INFURIATING PENALTIES TAKE CHILE TO THE PODIUM
Chile managed to win the bronze medal after defeating Uruguay in a penalty shootout 3-2, following a 0-0 draw during regular time. The game was very tight throughout its course, and this was reflected in the final possession of the match and the chances to break the deadlock.
