The organization of the II Junior Pan American Games ASU2025 is progressing steadily, emerging as an ambitious regional undertaking that blends world-class infrastructure, strategic planning, and a comprehensive vision to deliver a truly memorable event. At the most recent meeting of the Coordination and Monitoring Commission (COCOM), significant progress was reported in infrastructure, logistical operations, and general services, reaffirming the host nation’s commitment to sporting and organizational excellence.
Day One Highlights: Infrastructure, Planning, and Strategic Coordination
The first day of the meeting focused on construction updates, venue management, sports and general preparations. Several high-level officials were in attendance, including Camilo Pérez López Moreira, President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and IOC member; Neven Ilic, President of Panam Sports and IOC member; Miguel Ángel Mujica, President of the COCOM; Víctor Pecci, General Director of ASU2025; and Larissa Schaerer, Deputy Director of ASU2025. Reports presented during the session showed solid progress on key projects, including upgrades to the hockey, rugby, athletics, and BMX facilities, as well as the construction of two flagship venues: the Olympic Aquatic Center and the Urban Sports Complex—both envisioned as long-term assets for national sports development.
Energy infrastructure has also taken center stage. Both the Paraguayan Olympic Park and the National Sports Secretariat will be outfitted with full backup generators, ensuring uninterrupted operations throughout the Games. Simultaneously, urban beautification efforts around the park are underway, aiming to enrich the overall experience for spectators and visiting delegations alike.
When it comes to venue distribution and sporting disciplines, it was confirmed that the Olympic Park will serve as the central hub, with 16 sports venues hosting 14 sports and 22 disciplines. The National Sports Secretariat Complex will also play a prominent role, featuring 6 venues, 7 sports, and 9 disciplines. Additional standalone venues include the Asunción Waterfront for cycling, the Rakiura Complex for tennis, the Asunción Golf Club, and the Asunción Bay for sprint canoe and rowing events. The city of Encarnación will host open water swimming, sailing, triathlon, and mountain biking, while Lake Manene, in the city of Ypacaraí, will be the venue for water skiing competitions.
Key elements of the Games’ planning also include the implementation of an official transportation system for athletes and delegations, a pre-sale ticketing model with designated zones and crowd control, and a cultural and artistic program designed to run in parallel with the sporting events. Strong inter-institutional coordination is also being deployed to ensure a comprehensive security strategy.
Day Two: Logistics, Protocol, and Operational Readiness
The second day of the meeting focused on logistics, services, and protocol. Detailed transportation plans were laid out, covering transit from the airport to each venue, with an emphasis on safety, punctuality, and efficiency. Athletes will be housed in high-standard accommodations, with meal services tailored to meet both cultural and nutritional needs. Regular communication with the Chiefs of Mission continues, with strategic meetings scheduled to finalize operational details.
On the protocol front, preparations are already underway for the “Pan American Flame Lighting Ceremony”,The game’s opening, and closing ceremonies, as well as medal presentations, the Pan American torch relay, and the Panam Sports General Assembly. The accreditation process is progressing in line with top-tier security standards, and the volunteer program has received an enthusiastic response, particularly from youth.
In terms of branding and commercial strategy, new partnerships with brands are being finalized. A vibrant and modern visual identity is being developed for the Games, along with a line of official commemorative merchandise. Uniforms for staff, judges, volunteers, and ceremonies are also in the works, which are designed to reflect the values and energy of ASU2025.
With all of these advancements, the second edition of the Junior Pan American Games, ASU2025, is shaping up to be a transformative event; not only for Paraguayan sports, but for the region as a whole.
