This Monday, August 18, the Beach Volleyball competition was held at the Pynandi Stadium, leaving important victories for teams that are starting to look closely at the next phase of the competition.
First, in the women’s category, seven duos remain unbeaten: Brazil, Paraguay, USA, Bolivia, Venezuela, Canada, and Colombia, some of them having already played two matches. Meanwhile, in the men’s category, the undefeated teams are El Salvador, United States, Brazil, Canada, Venezuela, and Costa Rica.
WOMEN’S
The women’s tournament is divided into four groups of four teams each. In the first zone, Group A, Paraguay and the United States have already secured their ticket to the quarterfinals after their respective triumphs over Argentina and Nicaragua. In the next zone, Bolivia also registered among the qualified teams by winning both of its matches. The other ticket will be decided between Peru and Cuba, who will face each other tomorrow. Dominican Republic closes this section, having lost both of its matches.
Group C, which only played one game each, is provisionally led by Venezuela and Brazil, after their victories over Costa Rica and Guatemala. The same is true in the last zone; after the first day, Canada and Colombia lead the table ahead of Chile and El Salvador.
MEN’S
In the men’s category, the schedule unfolded in the same way, with one team already qualified for the quarterfinals: the United States. The North Americans lead with two victories in Group B, ahead of Cuba and Argentina—one win and one loss for each—and Ecuador, which lost both of its matches.
Group A is the other one that has already played two dates. After them, El Salvador is the leader with two victories, ahead of Paraguay (1-1), Chile (1-1), and Saint Kitts and Nevis (0-2). Continuing, Canada and Venezuela remain undefeated after one game and are at the top of the Group C table, escorted by Uruguay and Nicaragua, who are still without victories. The same is true in the last zone: Brazil and Costa Rica lead with one victory each, and the Dominican Republic and Bolivia close the ranking with a loss to their name.
Tomorrow will see the full development of this phase, and after its conclusion, the teams that will fight for medals in both categories of this entertaining sport will be announced.
