Three squash finals were contested today inside the “glass court” at the Secretaría Nacional de Deportes (SND), located in the heart of Asunción. The team events crowned their champions, with gold medals going to three different delegations.
First up was the women’s doubles final, where Guatemala’s Darlyn Sandoval and Tabita Gaitán struck gold after defeating their Mexican rivals 2–1. The opening set went to the North Americans 11–10, but the Guatemalans bounced back to take the next two sets 11–8 and 11–10, turning the score around and claiming the top spot on the podium.
In the men’s doubles final, Ecuador’s Juan Irisarri and Juan José Torres left no room for doubt, defeating Argentina 2–0. After a tightly contested first set that ended 11–9, the Ecuadorians tightened their play and delivered a near-perfect second set, winning 11–4 to secure the gold.
The mixed doubles final saw Mexico capitalize on their momentum and decisively defeat Peru 2–0. Champions Wally Ávila and Mariana Narváez took the match with scores of 11–4 and 11–7, collecting the two points needed to claim gold.
The action resumes tomorrow morning, with matches to decide who will fight for the last medals on Saturday.
