Mayer made history for Bolivian fencing, claiming the nation’s first-ever medal in the sport at both junior and senior levels. In the women’s category, Mexico’s Ana Margarita Paredes captured gold after defeating Venezuela’s representative in the final, having earlier overcome local favorite Janine Hanspach, who earned the bronze medal.
Both champions fought their way to the grand final. Mayer in sable and Paredes in épée each overcoming moments of adversity, a trait that proved decisive in their quest for gold and a spot atop the podium.
Mayer edged out the United States’ William Lim with a tight score 15–13 score, while Paredes delivered an almost flawless performance, defeating Venezuela’s Victoria Guerrero 15–7 in the final bout.
The action continues tomorrow at the Arenita SND Stadium, located within the facilities of the National Sports Secretariat.
