At the Paraguayan Table Tennis Federation Stadium, located in the National Secretary of Sport, the extensive day took place, starting in the morning and ending close to sunset. In it, the first medalists of this sport emerged, and the fate of others in the following categories was also decided.
The mixed doubles table tennis category has concluded. The duo defending Venezuela, Carlos Ríos and Dakota Ferrer, has taken the gold medal after defeating the Puerto Rican duo, Kristal Meléndez and Enrique León, 11-5, 11-8, 11-8, in an electrifying duel full of back and forth that the “vinotinto” team was able to overcome and achieve the longed-for first place.
In the men’s doubles category, the Brazilian duo formed by Felipe Doti and Leonardo Iizuka managed to beat the Ecuadorian pair of César Revelo and Joshua Robayo with a score of 3 sets to 0, thus classifying for the final and leaving Ecuador with the bronze medal. In the other semifinal, the United States advanced to the final with the victory of its duo formed by Nandan Naresh and Victor Xie, over their Canadian counterparts, defended by Xiao Ly and Laurent Jutras, with a score of 3-1, earning their place in the fight for the gold medal.
Also, in the women’s doubles category, the finalists were announced. The first semifinal was between the Brazilian duo of Beatriz Mendoca and Karina Senaga, who defeated the Canadian team, represented by Jessie Xu and Natalie Chan, 3-2. In the next semifinal, the Puerto Rican duo advanced to the grand final thanks to Edmarie León and Kristal Melendez, who defeated Tashiya Piyadasa and Satya Aspathi, representatives of the United States, with a score of 3-1.
On the other hand, in the individual duels, Nandan Naresh convincingly defeated the local Iván Pastore with a result of 4-0, thus classifying for the quarterfinals. The table tennis players Felipe Doti, Sebastián Bedoya, Leonardo Iizuka, Joshua Robayo, Victor Xie, and Ramón Vila also qualified for that stage after their successes.
Also in the individual duels, but in the women’s category, Edmarie León, Dakota Ferrer, Tashiya Piyadasa, Jessie Xu, Ana Isaza, Natalie Chan, Angelica Arellano, and Lucia Zavaleta advanced to the next round.
