The spectacular track cycling events brought a thrilling mix of speed, drama, and suspense right until the very end, keeping fans on the edge of their seats. The day crowned two new champions: Colombia’s Stefany Cuadrado in the Women’s Sprint and Argentina’s Santiago Gruñeiro in the Men’s Omnium.
After a long round of qualifications, the decisive phase began late in the day with the 80-lap Omnium points race in the men’s category. Coming from behind, Argentina’s Gruñeiro surged past his rivals in the final 20 laps, crossing the finish line with the fastest time of the competition to claim his first Pan American gold. Chile’s Diego Rojas and Venezuela’s Arlex Méndez completed the podium with silver and bronze, respectively.
Following the emotional men’s race, it was time for the women’s sprint final, featuring an all-Colombian showdown between Stefany Cuadrado and Maranis Salazar. With spectacular speed, Cuadrado won the first two decisive heats to secure the two points needed, rendering the third race unnecessary. In the bronze medal battle, Trinidad and Tobago’s Makaira Wallace defeated Argentina’s Valentina Méndez to round out the podium.
