Split into two sessions, with two games in the morning and two more at night. This beautiful sport started its activity at the year’s continental youth event. The matches did not disappoint. Each one was full of intensity and the Olympic spirit, as is characteristic of these types of competitions.
First, mid-morning at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee (COP), the match between the teams of Mexico and Canada took place, won by the former with a score of 4-3. The goals for the winning team were scored by Erick Francis, Jesahel Cuate, Isidro Santillán, and Brando Rodríguez. For the Canadians, the goal scorers were Leighton De Souza, Josiah Campbell, and Kale Simonson.
Then, halfway through the day, Chile found consecutive goals to defeat Trinidad and Tobago 4-1 with shouts from Tomás Hasson (two), Gaspar Fosalba, and Javier Vargas On the other side, Nicholas Siu Butt scored the only goal for the Caribbean team.
After the break between matches, the second session began with a landslide victory for Argentina over Brazil, 11-0. “Los Leoncitos” (the Little Lions) lived up to their status as favorites and prevailed over their neighbors with two goals from Bruno Correa, another pair from Santiago Fernández, and single tallies from Juan Fernández, Nicolás Rodríguez, Mateo Serrano, Mateo Torrigiani, Joaquín Costa, Lautaro Martínez, and Juan Boretti.
In the last match of the inaugural day, the host country, Paraguay, could not overcome the United States, despite the massive support from their people. The final score favored the North Americans 6-1 thanks to a second half where they made almost no mistakes. Bennet Noberit (two goals), Max Shoenfelder, Ian Rodrick Bleeker, Mehtab Grewal, and Alexandre Beauduin scored for the celebration of the country’s representatives. Jesús Velázquez scored the only goal for the Guarani team.
The thrilling competition will take a break tomorrow to give way to the women’s category and will continue on Tuesday with four more matches on the intense schedule.
