Over the course of the weekend, young athletes represented their countries with pride, delivering thrilling performances and, in many cases, setting new records on the path to the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025.
The youth test event, designed to mirror the level of international competition expected at ASU2025, unfolded with exceptional energy and professionalism. Brazil emerged as the dominant force in both the men’s and women’s categories, finishing with the highest cumulative points. The two-day tournament brought together more than 300 athletes from 17 countries across the Americas, as well as select nations from Europe and Africa, creating a diverse and inspiring showcase of global youth talent.
Throughout the final day, the atmosphere was one of camaraderie and fierce yet respectful competition. Several records were broken, adding valuable points to national tallies and sparking pride across delegations.
Among the standout performances was Peru’s Mariano Fiol, who set a new championship record in the 200 meters with a time of 21.18. Argentina’s Irene Pernía also made her mark by clocking 09:39.61 in the 3000 meters, setting a new event record.
One of the most decisive moments came from Brazil’s Hakelly De Souza, who delivered a time of 23.66 in the women’s 200 meters. Her performance not only secured individual accolades but also helped cement Brazil’s victory in the team standings.
The event culminated with the 4×400 meter mixed relay, a crowd favorite. Team Colombia: comprised of José Miguel Valencia, Emily Pedraza, Marlon Acevedo, and Sara Cuesta who set a new tournament record with a time of 3:29.99 and claimed the gold medal to thunderous applause.
Tito and Tika Bring the Spirit of the Games
In a joyful interlude that captured the spirit of ASU2025, Tito and Tika, the official mascots of the Junior Pan American Games, made a surprise appearance. Their energy, color, and charm lit up the venue, engaging athletes and spectators alike in a shared celebration of youth, sport, and unity.
