The imposing Olympic Aquatic Center celebrated its debut in the continental competitions with celebrations in different languages and ephemeral Pan American records that were surpassed on the same day.
The day opened mid-morning with the three rounds of the 400-meter freestyle in the women’s category, where Argentina’s athlete, Agostina Hein, set a new record with a time of 04:13:41.
Then, in the 100-meter breaststroke, Panama’s athlete, Emily Silva Santos, also set a continental youth record with a time of 01:08:55.
In the man’s branch, records were also broken. The austanding thing about the case is that the same mark was surpassed three times. First, the Brazilian Guilherme Camosatto broke the best time set in Cali four years ago with a mark of 01:02:13, in the 100-meter breaststroke. That performance was improved minutes later with the record of Chilean Mariano Lazzerini with a time of 01:01:15, finally, the last one to break the record was the Puerto Rico’s athlete, Xavier Ruiz, with a time of 01:00:80, always in the same style.
Going with the team modalities, this incredible day concluded with another double record in the men’s 4×100 freestyle relay. In the first place, Trinidad y Tobago left a continental mark with the time of 03:26:96, but it was quickly beaten by the time of Venezuela, which set the stopwatch at 03:23:88.
This afternoon, the swimming day continues with the finals A and B, where the first medalists of this noble sport will be known.
