It was a dream night for the Paraguayan javelin thrower. The South American champion shattered expectations, breaking the continental record twice. He sealed the gold medal with a final throw of 81.56 meters. Earlier, Flaming had already surpassed the standing record with a throw of 79.05 meters, a mark that lasted only minutes before he bettered it.
Rounding out the javelin podium were Leikel Cabrera of Cuba (75.82m) with silver and Thiago Lacerda of Brazil (69.77m) with bronze.
WOMEN’S GOLD FOR COLOMBIA
Colombian thrower Valentina Barrios matched the historic night by also setting a new continental mark to claim gold. Barrios launched her javelin 60.16 meters, earning the gold medal and setting a new Junior Pan American record. Manuela Rotundo of Uruguay took silver, while Claudia Guerrero of Cuba claimed bronze.
