This past weekend, the AguaVista circuit, located in San Juan del Paraná, Itapúa, hosted the AguaVista XCO UCI 2025 Cup, a Class 1 event sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The competition brought together 249 elite cyclists from various countries, including Spain, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia, and Paraguay, who faced a technical 5.1-kilometer lap course with 100 meters of positive elevation.
This international event not only showcased the growth of mountain biking in the region but also positioned Itapúa as a continental sports hub. The Government of Itapúa declared the competition an Event of Departmental Interest, recognizing its significance and the economic, tourism, and sports impact it generated.
Juan Szopa, president of the Itapúa Cycling Federation and the main driving force behind the event for over twelve years, stated: “We have been growing year after year. We dare to dream big, to believe it is possible. Today, Paraguay has a World Cup team competing in our event, something that once seemed unattainable.”
Regarding the venue, Szopa added: “AguaVista offers all the necessary conditions. It is located near Encarnación and spans 307 hectares of natural surroundings, ensuring comfort and an ideal environment for sports practice.”
Confirmed Venue for the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025
The AguaVista complex has been confirmed as one of the independent venues designated to host cycling competitions during the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025, scheduled for August. With top-level facilities and a privileged natural setting, the site represents a strategic option for hosting international sporting events.
The city of Encarnación, renowned for its tourism infrastructure and hospitality, is preparing to welcome delegations from across the Americas, further solidifying its reputation as a prime host for major sporting events.
