Women’s volleyball concluded its group stage at the COP Arena in the Olympic Park with a night full of tension and decisive matches. The Dominican Republic and Brazil faced off for a spot in the quarterfinals, while Paraguay and Cuba did the same in Group A. Earlier in the morning, the day started with victories for Mexico and Argentina.
BRAZIL – DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
Brazil secured its third consecutive victory by defeating the Dominican Republic 3-1 in a match with moments of high intensity. The Brazilian team dominated the first set with authority, and although the second was tighter, they closed it out by a narrow margin. The Caribbean team reacted in the third, closing the gap and sparking hopes of a comeback; however, Brazil was relentless in the fourth set to seal the victory and solidify its position as the sole leader of Group B.
CUBA – PARAGUAY
In the final match of the day, Cuba defeated Paraguay with an authoritative 3-0 victory. The Caribbean team dominated from start to finish, showing solidity in every facet of the game. Whitney James was the star for the Central American team, contributing 16 points to secure the win. With this result, the Paraguayan team leaves the tournament without earning any points in Group A.
ARGENTINA – COSTA RICA
A duel full of emotions from the very first point from both teams, especially from the Argentinians, who displayed quality and aggression in their style of play, taking the first set 25-11. However, in the following sets, Costa Rica managed to polish their errors and fought hard, making for a spectacle of exciting spikes and blocks. Despite the great effort from the Central American team, Argentina took sets 25-19 and 25-22 to close out the game with a convincing 3-0 victory.
MEXICO – CHILE
In the game that opened the third day of women’s volleyball, Mexico and Chile measured their strengths to conclude their journey through the group stage. The game had an even start, but as the minutes passed, the North American team imposed its superiority and won the match with scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-17.
The group stage standings are now final. In Group A, Argentina advances undefeated with 15 points, followed by Cuba with 10. In Group B, Brazil takes first place with 13 points, followed by Mexico, which has 10.
Tomorrow, Mexico will face Costa Rica, while Cuba will measure its strength against the Dominican Republic in the quarterfinals of the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025.
