The city of San Estanislao, commonly known as Santaní, embraced the day with enthusiasm and civic pride. The event was officially declared of Municipal and Departmental Interest, highlighting its significance for the local community. The torch relay began in front of the Administrative Office of the San Pedro Governorate and concluded at Plaza Libertad, drawing students, families, local authorities, and sports representatives into a vibrant celebration.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Fredy D’ecclesiis, Governor of the San Pedro Department; Eliane Lima de D’ecclesiis, First Lady of the department; Félix D’ecclesiis, President of the Departmental Council; Christian D’ecclesiis, Administrative Coordinator of the Governorate in Santaní; and Joel García, Secretary of Sports.
The relay was led by prominent athletes from the region. Sisters Sofía and Lucero Villalba, national handball champions and Pan American medalists, carried the Flame with pride. They were joined by Marcos Acosta, captain of Deportivo Santaní, further underscoring the strong sporting tradition of the area.
The day concluded with a cultural performance and a speech from Governor Fredy D’ecclesiis, accompanied by representatives of the ASU2025 Local Organizing Committee. Also bringing color and excitement to the event were Tito and Tika, the official mascots of the Games, who delighted children and adults alike with their high-spirited energy.
The passage of the Pan American Flame through San Pedro marked yet another meaningful moment in its symbolic journey across Paraguay. As the nation builds momentum toward ASU2025, each stop becomes a reminder of the unifying power of sport and the shared dream of a continent coming together through youth, talent, and aspiration.
The relay continues on Sunday, July 20, in Hernandarias, with a special visit to the Itaipú area, one of the landmark stops on the route to the Games.
