Speed Skating kicked off in spectacular fashion at the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025. Through epic races, fearless athletes made their mark and electrified the crowd that filled the stands on a scorching Paraguayan afternoon.
After the morning heats, the medals for the 1000m Sprint were decided in both the men’s and women’s divisions. By the end of the competition, Colombia’s Kollin Castro and the USA’s Jacob Melton claimed gold, clocking times of 1:34.946 and 1:29.311, respectively.
In the women’s final, Castro snatched first place in thrilling fashion, edging out Venezuela’s Wilmary Toro, who nevertheless set a new Junior Pan American record with her time of 1:34.946. Chile’s Catalina Lorca rounded out the podium with a time of 1:35.920.
On the men’s side, Melton not only captured gold but also established a new junior continental record during the qualifying round, stopping the clock at 1:24.744, now the fastest junior mark across the Americas. Ecuador’s Jeremy Ulcuango secured silver with 1:29.574, while Colombia’s Santiago Vásquez took bronze in 1:30.162.
This fascinating discipline continues tomorrow with the second day of action at the Speed Skating Oval, located in the heart of the Olympic Park.
