The host country’s holiday, due to the founding date of the city of Asunción, was full of enthusiasm and drama with the start of 3X3 Basketball, a discipline that captured the spotlight at the Olympic Park. Both in the men’s and women’s categories, the national teams began their journey in this three-day tournament. Tomorrow, the qualifiers for the next stage will be decided, although some have already managed to do so today.
MEN’S
Divided into four groups of three members each, the top two from each zone will secure their ticket to the next round. In that sense, the only team that managed to advance was the local one, Paraguay, which won its two presentations and is already waiting in the quarterfinals. In their same group, Group D, the Cayman Islands, and Mexico will fight tomorrow for the second spot.
In Group A, the one that already played its two matches was Ecuador, which first lost to Chile and then defeated Trinidad and Tobago. Everything will be decided tomorrow with the duel between those who still need to complete their initial phase games.
Group B had the Dominican Republic with a double header. Firstly, they fell against Argentina and then defeated El Salvador, leaving the spots open for the next phase.
Finally, the last group to name is Group C, in which Canada fell to Puerto Rico by a single point, in the first turn, and then defeated Brazil to continue with chances of advancing. That qualification will be decided tomorrow with the clash between Puerto Ricans and Brazilians.
WOMEN’S
In the women’s branch, there is already a defined group with its two confirmed the qualified athletes the quarterfinals. In Group C, Guatemala fell in its two presentations against Mexico and Brazil. Consequently, it no longer has chances of advancing to the next round, and the two winners did so ahead of time.
Continuing, in the first zone of the tournament, Uruguay alternated results in its two presentations, being the only team that has already completed its games in this phase. El Salvador and Chile will define positions tomorrow.
Another similar zone is Group B. There, Costa Rica reaped a win and a loss in its presentations and is awaiting the clash between Argentina and Ecuador, tomorrow, to know its fate.
Finally, the local team, Paraguay, had a bittersweet day with its defeat against Puerto Rico and subsequent triumph against Canada. Tomorrow, these last two teams will face each other to know the pair of qualifiers.
