A Historic Milestone
The event took place at the Paraguayan Olympic Committee grounds and featured the participation of Mr. Santiago Peña, President of the Republic; César Ramírez, Minister of Sports; Neven Ilic, President of Panam Sports; Camilo Pérez López Moreira, President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee and IOC Member; Víctor Pecci, General Director of the ASU2025 Games; Larissa Schaerer, Deputy General Director of ASU2025, along with other sports authorities, athletes, and media representatives.
The ceremony began with speeches by the President of the Republic and the President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, followed by the ribbon-cutting and the unveiling of the commemorative plaque. The impressive CAO facility was officially opened to the public, marking the start of a new era for aquatic sports in Paraguay.
Art, Lights, and Emotion
Inside the complex, guests enjoyed a light show and an aerial performance by the Nhi Mu dance-theater troupe, accompanied by the National Police Orchestra. A fusion of art and sport created the perfect setting for an unforgettable evening.
An Investment with a Vision for the Future
With an investment of 15 million dollars and eleven months of construction, the Olympic Aquatic Center generated over 300 direct jobs and is poised to become a lasting legacy for future generations. The facility was designed to meet World Aquatics standards, allowing it to host top-tier international competitions.
Technology, Capacity, and Excellence
The center features two pools:
- An Olympic pool measuring 51.20 x 25 meters, 3 meters deep, with an innovative three-section movable bridge that allows it to be converted into four 25-meter pools or one 50-meter pool.
- A diving pool measuring 21 x 25 meters, with a depth of 5 meters.
The venue also includes seating for 2,500 spectators, a gym, dryland training area, locker rooms, service and operations areas — ensuring a comprehensive experience for both athletes and the public.
On the Road to ASU2025 and Beyond
In addition to being a key venue for the II Junior Pan American Games ASU2025, the CAO is envisioned as an inclusive, accessible, and educational space where children, youth, and seniors can engage in aquatic activities that promote health, well-being, and quality of life.
The inauguration of this facility not only strengthens the legacy of ASU2025 but also reaffirms Paraguay’s commitment to sport, development, and organizational excellence in preparation for the event, which will bring together more than 4,000 athletes from across the continent from August 9 to 23.
