The ceremony took place within the grounds of the Itaipú Binational facility, where the torch traveled nearly 1,000 meters. Fifteen torchbearers proudly carried the Flame across the site in a carefully choreographed relay. Hugo Zárate, Technical Director of Itaipú, welcomed attendees to what became an emotionally charged day of cultural and sporting celebration.
The event brought together local and regional authorities, representatives from the sports community, and members of the ASU2025 organizing committee. It was both an institutional and civic occasion, marked by strong participation and public spirit.
Among the torchbearers were notable individuals such as Víctor Hugo Dávalos, Francisco Alcorta, Agatha Araceli Giménez, Fátima Luján Ramírez, Liz González, and Fabián Adin Corvalán. They were joined by relay coordinator Yidan Veneroso, along with Rodrigo Silva, Juan Villamayor, Marcelo Galeano, Dante Pigliacelli, Pedro Blas Godoy, Marcos Benítez, Valentina Figueredo, Kiara Mallada, César Delvalle, Zunilda Encina, and Denis Fernández.
The Flame was respectfully escorted by members of Paraguay’s security forces. Sub-lieutenant Bruno Alfonso, Sergeant First Class Blas Centurión, and officers Pedro Almada, Jorge Alonso, Jorge Fernández, Buenaventura Román, Jorge Villalba, Mauro Garay, Richard Cáceres, Nicolás Rodas, Julio César Riveros, Édgar Gabriel Benítez, Luis Gabriel Gamarra, and Mathías Ayala all played a role in ensuring the torch’s passage was safe and dignified.
Adding color and charm to the event were Tito and Tika, the official mascots of ASU2025. With their joy, charisma, and infectious enthusiasm, they embodied the spirit of the Games and brought smiles to everyone in attendance. Their presence reminded the public that beyond the competition, the Games are a celebration of friendship, inclusion, and youth empowerment.
This stop in Hernandarias marks another milestone in the nationwide journey of the Pan American Flame. As it travels across Paraguay, it continues to inspire and connect communities, highlighting sport as a powerful tool for building unity and igniting dreams.
