On a sunny day with the characteristic cold of a morning in the Bay of Asunción, the final day of rowing competition took place. The bay’s waters remained calm, allowing the events to proceed without any issues and providing a perfect setting for the young athletes to demonstrate their skill and preparation.
The Chilean delegation had an outstanding final day, taking home gold in two of the last four events. The Chilean team’s two victories came in the mixed eights and the women’s quadruple sculls, with a good time margin over Brazil, which finished second in both races.
Next, in the final team event, men’s quadruple sculls, Cuba prevailed in a heart-stopping, photo-finish race, beating Brazil by just 0.11 seconds. The Caribbean team finished with a time of 6:01.64, while the South Americans set a time of 6:01.75. Chile finished third in this competition, taking home the bronze medal.
Finally, in the last individual race, men’s single sculls, Uruguay’s Luciano García was faster than his rivals and won the final gold medal. Santino Menin of Argentina and Marcelo de Almeida of Brazil completed the podium with the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
THE HOST TEAM ADDS MORE MEDALS
Team Paraguay had a remarkable morning on the last day of rowing at the ASU2025 Games.
The team composed of Fiorela Rodríguez, Agustina López, Nicole Martínez, and Lucía Martínez finished in third place in the women’s quadruple sculls and won the bronze medal with a time of 6:50.83.
Following that, in a very close race, Paraguay claimed the bronze medal in the mixed eights. The rowers from Team Paraguay—Nicole Martínez, Fiorela Rodríguez, Agustina López, Lucía Martinez, Nicolás Villalba, Nicolás Invernizzi, Gabriel Yser, and Alejo Giménez—stepped onto the podium after achieving a time of 6:09.42.
With these results, the host team has now accumulated a total of eight medals, with a notable six of them coming from rowing.
