Weightlifting came into action at ASU2025, and with it, the 65kg modality in its men’s branch left us with surprising results. First, in the snatch, the Colombian José González won the gold in his 65kg branch after a lift of 130 kg in his third attempt, after achieving 127 in his start, and failing 130 in his second chance, and in the clean and jerk, in his first attempt, he achieved 146kg, then, 151kg, and finally failed with 160kg, thus obtaining the first place. For the silver medal, the Venezuelan David Vargas achieved the second-highest lift in the snatch, getting 123kg in his second attempt, after overcoming 120 kg at his start, finally, failing 126 in his third chance, and in the clean and jerk he achieved 145kg in his first chance, 150kg in his second, and failing in his last attempt with 154kg. The Venezuelan is followed by the Cuban Yulieski Martinez, who got a lift of 120kg in his last chance, after overcoming 110 and 115 kg, and in the clean and jerk he achieved 145kg, 141kg and 148kg respectively.
Also, in the women’s 53kg modality, the Venezuelan Kerlys Montilla becomes the holder of the gold medal, after managing to lift 75kg in her first attempt, then 78kg, and finally, 81kg, with a clean and jerk, she achieved 95, 98 and 102kg, a perfect score to win the gold in this branch. The silver medal went to Jade Morales, who achieved 72, 75 and failed at 77kg in the snatch, but in the clean and jerk, she was able to lift 95kg, failed in her second chance with 98kg, but had her revenge in the third attempt, managing to lift the weight that she could not in her second chance. And with the bronze medal was the local athlete, Violeta Fernández, who managed to master the 72kg in her first attempt in the snatch, then she was able to with 75kg and failed in the last attempt with 77kg, then in the clean and jerk, 95kg in the first lift, failed in the second with 98kg, and was able to overcome the 98kg in her last chance, thus giving Team Paraguay another Pan-American medal.
In the men’s 71kg modality, the gold went to the Venezuelan David García who managed to overcome the 119, 123 and 125kg in the snatch, 150 and 155kg in the clean and jerk. He is followed by the silver medal that went to the Mexican Leonardo Torres, dominating the 117, 120 and 124kg in the snatch, added to the 150kg in the clean and jerk. And with the bronze medal, the Chilean Benjamin Riquelme, who far exceeded the 114, 118, and 124kg snatch and 150kg clean and jerk.
In the women’s 58kg modality, the Colombian Gelen Torres was the winner of the long-awaited gold, after overcoming the 90, 95, 98kg snatch, and the 110, 105 kg clean and jerk, then, the silver medal went to María Hernández, from Mexico, who completed 81 and 84kg in the snatch, and 100, 105kg in the clean and jerk. Finally, the bronze medal was taken by the Ecuadorian Brithany Moncayo, with 80kg in the snatch, and 101, 106kg in the clean and jerk.
