One from the north and one from the south. The Hockey field at the Olympic Park witnessed the prowess of these teams that remain undefeated and will fight for the gold medal in the grand final of the competition.
To put it in order, the semifinals were for the national teams of Argentina and the United States. In the first of them, the “rioplatenses” defeated Chile 4-1 in a match that didn’t find its owner until the second half. After ending the initial part tied at one goal per side, in the complementary stage, the figure of Milagros Alastra appeared to turn the tide in favor of her team.
In the other semifinal, the development was much more even. The United States had to use its last resources to defeat the tough Uruguayan team with a score of 2-1. Alaina Mcveigh brought peace of mind for the North Americans with her goals in the first half, but in the final part of the match, the goal by Sol Martínez installed uncertainty until the final whistle.
Before these two entertaining matches, in the morning, the games corresponding to the reclassification of the tournament took place. There, the teams from Canada and Mexico defeated their rivals, Guyana and Paraguay, respectively, and on Tuesday they will fight for fifth place in the competition. The two South American teams will play for seventh place on that same day.
